I found an odd looking rim on a collection of coins my father left me. I've already separated the silvers and such, but the rim of this one stuck out for me in the sorting process.

It's probably nothing, but I just wanted to post it here for your more informed opinions.

Just a really low loop on the 9..

It just looks like a really dull copper edge. Nothing too awkward, I think..

What does it sound like when the ring test is done? (drop flat from low height, about a centimeter, onto a table..)

It looks like the copper layer is there, it's just dark in comparison to the other coins surrounding it.

Don't 40% silvers have that colored edge?

No, 40% won't show copper and that is a 1981 coin. Just a dark copper color on the edge. Not worth anything extra.

40% silver half dollars do typically show an exposed core on the edge that appears gray. I strongly suggest that you weigh the coin to test the possibility that this coin was struck on a silver-clad planchet left over from the 1960's. Stranger things have happened.
