Hello all, new member here.

I've just discovered this bill stuck in an old book left me by my deceased parents. Along with a number of other oddities was this $5 bill which I assumed is/was WWII propaganda. Can anybody give me any info. I've found info on Japanese bills but none about American denominations. No idea what language the "message" is in.

Thanks,
btsmith

Judging by the characters and the right-to-left format it's written in, I'd say it's Arabic or a closely related language.

I couldn't tell you any more about it. Very interesting!

This is a German Propaganda note...

Another German parody of the US $5

The second $5 banknote variety is identical to the first on the front, but lacks the skull and bears a different Arabic language text on the back:

To the people of Morocco: When a merchant wants to sell something in his store to a customer, both the buyer and seller look to the scale. They both see the merchandise on one side and the weight on the other and they are satisfied when the scale balances. There is no need for argument; both get what they pay for. How beautiful it would be if the world would be judged on a similar scale.

But now the Americans, the thieves, force themselves through countries, drowning these nations with their dollars, which causes confusion. The rules of government have been changed. Violence has become rampant, and it seems that someone has an invisible finger on the scales, pushing down to make sure that one side has more value than the other side.

These ‘people of the dollars' destroy the rules of marketing and housing. If they had their way all of the time you would have nothing to show but their paper money. Wouldn't it be better if you kept your money, animals, oil and other products away from the eyes of the enemy so he could not reach out and get his hands on everything you own? Let the American keep his money and see how he will fill his stomach with dollars. A smart man saves part of his food and products for another time when he will be in need.

There are also similar messages on fake British pound notes.

The $5.00 is a great find.

Wow, that was quick!

Thanks o1h82w8. My father spent time in North Africa so that must be where it came from.

Do you guys think this has any collectable value or just my sentimental value?

Looking forward to hitting you up re: other bills stuck inside this book.

I've never heard of nor have seen anything like that before. Pretty interesting. And I'm interested in seeing the other notes you have.

What series is on the obverse?

That is a very nice note............. to be treasured, not sold. I would love to have one like that. A wonderful keepsake left by your parents.

Hey Cajunlady0 from LaPlace--

Nice to "meet" you. I lived in NO '89-'05. Sold my house and moved back here to Santa Barbara, CA 5 months before the storm. Haven't had the heart to go back yet (survival guilt?). But I sure do still feel like a South Louisianan; still get my andouile, tasso, and mudbugs tails shipped out from Poche's!

I tried to send this to you as a personal e-mail but the CCF system wouldn't accept it from a new member.

Apologies to any other readers out there who might be bothered by this personal message....it's a South Louisiana thing.

I am more interested in the message than the note.
7 decades on and it still has some relevance today

hiya Btsmith. You can come on back.......things are back to normal out here where I live, but parts of the city are still messed up, bet they are getting back on their feet every day.

Glad the Poche's are helping you out. I lived in Houston for 4 years and I missed the food the worst! Nobody knows good food until they lived in the New Orleans area.

Get those posts up so we can send each other messages!

Thanks for letting us borrow this thread to talk, guys!

, btsmith!

I would guess the auction value of the note as a military collectable to be $50-100, especially with the explanation and translation.
