2011 is ended with a lot of wonderful silver commemorative coins. I am doing a poll on my blog to know the most beautiful coin of 2011. I made a list of 30 coins , it is subjective of course. What is your opinion ?

Quote: I like the reverse on 09) CONGO Have you noticed the reverse legend is in Russian? So is on 13) Cook Isl. (Well, that's probably Ukrainian but in this case the word in both languages is the same.) And so is on 18) Kyrgyzstan (That one I can understand, Kyrgyzstan was the last of the former Soviet republics to abandon Russian ruble ... I wonder when Russia is abandoning Russian ruble ) I didn't know Russian language was dominating the coin world!

Yes you see well svslav this coin is reserved to Russian market so written in Russian. Why Congo coin for Russian market you will ask me ? I don't know it is strange, it is for financial interest I think. Cook Isl has many coins for Russian market too. Sometimes commerative coins have no logical, only financial interest, too bad.

I guess it's true, there is such a thing as "Russian market". Last couple of decades saw a spike in the number of filthy rich Russians (literally filthy), so this gives them an incentive to invest into (those types of) PM's.

Those are NFC coins, so it's not that much my stuff ... But I have to admit that there is an excellent work on those, even though I find the design of some of them "kitch" - some others are excellent :) Designers are really imaginative !

Art is a living thing. The artwork on all of these coins has used the advantage of what modern technology can apply. I like it.
I still prefer the best artwork that can be found on the ancient Greek coins of Syracuse, 2,400 years ago. The best examples of art from these coins can compete with the best of modern Neo Classic art, such as found of the St Gaudens Double Eagle, or the Liberty Walking Half Dollar.
