Coin found buried in mountains of Macedonia. I have not cleaned the coin other than to wipe dirt off so it is in original condition. Can anyone tell me approx value and best way to sell it? I'm not a collector so unsure where to start...

Description of identical coin found online:
Dalmatia, Republic of Ragusa (nowdays Dubrovnik). 1358-1808.
AR Tallero (28.50 g, 12h). magistrate DM
DM. RECTOR • REI RHACVSIN •, draped bust of the Rector left; D M at sides
DVCAT • ET • SEM REIP • RAC • 1773, crowned coat-of-arms; D M below.
Resetar 3045; Davenport 1639; KM 18.

I can't seem to upload an image on this post but happy to email if anyone wants to view the coin. It looks identical to this (except not a bright/clean): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...1-711875.jpg

Hello and welcome to the forum. Hope we can help.

The current Krause values are listed on this website. CoinArchives ought to also have several examples of the type, if not the exact same year, in the database at any one time. As you can see from the NGC page, the date on the coin doesn't make too much difference to the value.

The value of a coin depends on condition, so figuring out where your coin fits on this price scale will require seeing pics of your actual coin.

As for selling venue, that's entirely up to you. ebay may not be the best; high-value foreign coins tend not to do so well if a seller doesn't have a good reputation for selling coins. If you're in a big city and you don't want to take the gamble on ebay, you could try asking it around the coin dealers - just don't expect them to give you too much above 50% of the catalogue value.

I like Ragusa coins and I have several of them in my collection (although smaller denomination ).

My advice for selling coin is to go from coin dealer to coin dealer and see who will offer you best price. And maybe you will find collector who will give you full price.

PS I'm actually not surprised to see Ragusa coin found in Macedonian hills. Ragusa was a famous trading city state and it had trading posts all over Balkan for more then 6 centuries.
