Token ID: BGC 6d?

An interesting token.
There's one site to search on that I use regularly...

Also it was fairly rare to have 6d tokens before the mid 1800's, most were 2d, 1d or less so the odds would be on it being later. I understand that they were used as small change in those days, and 6d would probably not have been thought of as 'small change'.
Good luck with the search; I spent 30 minutes on it and got nowhere really.
A lot were made in Birmingham so it may be an idea to start the search there for local ones.

P.S. Have you considered that it may be a gas meter token from around the late 1800s. Prepayment meters were constantly being raided by burglars and gas companies changed to using tokens to thwart them. There was also a Bolton Gas Company who issued tokens, although the one I found was for 1/2d I believe. Just another avenue to try.

I think you are definitely on the right track.
It does look mid-late 19th century. I guess B.G.C could be an acronym for many company names or issuers initials?

But I would guess that it comes from a fairly low issue, and from a source that did not need to advertise the nature of the token.
The Gas Co, does make sense (I spent an hour looking after your post MikeG, but I am sure there would be others available, as they would be made in higher numbers)

Also the quality and design looks pretty good compared modern machine tokens? Not sure about 19th century machine tokens (as most things in the 19th century were better quality).

It has been a while since I acquired this token (5 yrs) and I have pretty much given up after searching for hours and hours of B.G.C, British Guiana Company, Bullingdon Gentlemen's Club etc, etc.

Any further help or ideas greatly appreciated!
