supposedly...
Was going to share this with you guys when it arrived, but since it has been unusually quiet in the ancients forum today (no new posts in the last 13 hours ), I'd thought I'd break the silence and post my newest internet pickup, my first Nero!

Nero (54-68 AD) AE as

Obv: IMP NERO CAESAR AVG P MAX TR POT P P, bare-headed left, with globe at point of bust

Rev: Victoria flying left, holding shield with SPQR inscribed, S-C across field
RIC 546, Lugdunum mint, 28 mm

"For as long as Belisarius lives, it is impossible for him to relinquish this city." - Roman general Belisarius, responding to a group of Gothic envoys, during the Gothic siege of Rome in 537 AD

Attributed coins in my collection so far - Roman: 238, Byzantine: 34, Post-Roman Germanic: 21

Nice details! Nero may be one of the easiest portraits to ID on a Roman coin.

Perhaps not even his mom, since Nero killed her.
