Hi Ike $ fans:

I've seen many '71 - '74 Ikes for sale which look a little cameo and are claimed to be proof, but are not in the brown pack plastic holder. If the mint put these years proof Ikes in a brown pack plastic holder are the coins I've seen for sale actual business strikes which are proof rejects so they have a little frost on the devices?

No, they are proofs. They have simply been removed from the original government packaging (OGP). The OGP in this case being the rigid plastic holder and brown box.

All of my "Brown Ike" Eisenhower dollars were liberated from their OGP holders and placed in my Dansco album.

Proofs from the early 70's often do not have the strong cameo we are used to from later proofs. The 73 and 74 proof should have some cameo but it may not be heavy. 1971 and 72 proofs are not unusual in brilliant proof with little or no frost on the coins.

Well. Will SB Ikes have no frost on the devices so as to be distinguished from the proofs?

SB ikes don't have mirrored finishes at all, they're basically frosty all over.
