I recently got a pretty nice looking 1964-D Lincoln Cent while roll hunting when I noticed that it had a huge blob covering a pretty significant chunk of the reverse. I'm wondering if I should clean it or just leave the cent alone. I'm afraid cleaning will damage it...

It looks like a normal penny until...

It's not a high-value coin, so it might be a good one to experiment on. I agree with acetone. Search the forum, there are several threads that discuss how to use it.

Perhaps a better question may be asked:
'Can it be cleaned?'

Looks like the goop that holds it to a piece of mail advertisement. As mentioned the acetone soak should remove it. Let it bathe for an hour or so....it won't bother the coin.

1964D, I wouldn't waste any time on it, and just get a better one. You could probably pick one up for about a penny.
