Dull and shiny dime

I am wondering about this half dull half shiny dime I thought dipped in something but the reverse only has a fraction of dullness over STA

Looks like a partial obverse acid dip on the left side of the dime. Note the rim on the outside. The area eaten away at 9-11:00. It didn't leave the mint that way.
