A very beautiful coin. Has a nice luster to it still.
I just thought it was in great condition for its age and at $22 I couldn't pass it up!
Any thoughts?

I'll defer to the experts on Morgans, but a couple of things don't quite ring my chimes. The denticles aren't uniform, especially on the reverse and the font might be a bit off to these old eyes. At a minimum it's been polished. Have you weighed the coin? In XF/AU condition it should be very close to 26.7 grams. Also give it the magnet test. PG

I don't think it's a fake, I think the camera's focus blurs the denticles in some areas and doesn't in others. It does look like it has been polished, or even perhaps plated (most likely polished). Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay?

Well I had no doubt it wasn't authentic. I was just worried to hear that it may have been polished. It weighed in at 26.79. And I payed $22 for it! My local shop currently charges $22 for all Morgan and Peace dollars. Guys in the Precious Metals and Bullion forum don't believe the price but, it is. I bought an 1899 and 1896 Morgan and a 1925 Peace today.

BTW, the pic was taken with my phone. So the focus and whatnot is not perfect. Coin does look a bit different in person.

Price is definitely worth it. Kind of sad that this one has been deemed polished. But at the shop I had first glance at it and bought it lol.

Already put it up. lol. Keeping the 1896. But definitely going to get rid of this one. If I make a buck I make a buck. But at that price I'm guessing I might make a few. Trying to sell some junk I have to cash in to some .999....

You paid melt for a $30ish coin - not bad, if it is real!

Excellent buy even though it has been cleaned! You need to make another trip back to the dealer and pick up more at that price.

They only had 6 or 7 left when I went there today. Most in pretty bad shape. One completely black can barely read it. One had a thick white haze over it. (Obviously dipped cleaned). At least mine was possibly just polished lol. But the other 4 or 5 weren't bad. May go back tomorrow.

BTW, the one in the pic already sold on eBay for $33. I'm keeping the 1896 I got though. Looks like I'm going to buy some more.
