Bought another "busy" Morgan at my local coin store this morning and wanted some help on attributing it VAM-wise. It's an 1882-O in slider to BU condition with a lot going on. The date is struck over something as is the Mint Mark. There is also a die clash by the eagle's left wing and a die crack below Liberty's neck. All help would be greatly appreciated. Paleoguy

The die crack is a "smoking gun" attribute identifying your coin as one whose obverse die is shared by VAMs 9, 14 and 17. I'm going to leave it to you to finalize.
The best thing about a bicycle is that it uses no gasoline, therefore the chance of fiery death is greatly reduced.

Dunno - I stopped with the die crack.

Seriously, it pretty much boiled down to what you can personally see in the mint mark for lines and placement. Furthermore, there's not really enough data at VAMworld to conclusively prove it, to my mind.

Keep in mind that the listing may "Not" contain the wording you would use to describe what you are seeing. If you look at the listing for the 1882 O Vam-42a no where is it mentioned that it has a Late die state with a big die break though the 1 in the date. I just picked one in a little bit later die state with a second radial break though the "N" in UNUM.

The first 6 mo or so the listing's messed me up as I was looking at something not in the VAM listing. Two things happened...I ended up looking at a lot more VAM listings, that helped later on as I remembered some of the pages. I also got frustrated a bunch of times, you just have to hang in there!!

MAny a die listing is INCOMPLETE..., just saying...as in....the big thing of this year is the die cracks, and the
"cud" if you can find one, the rest is not considered as
important..G
