Hello!

Just received a few Morgan dollars that I purchased on ebay, and one of them seems a little off to me. I will be weighing this coin tonight, but I would like to get your opinions based on an image of the coin. Is this a counterfeit coin? Thanks for the help!

Welcome to Coin Community, atheron1. There's absolutely no way to properly interpret the one image posted. Not only do we not even know what mint the coin is from, I see distortions on both the bottom and top of the image which make me think it might be the camera and not the coin. Yes, the date looks a little too close and somewhat skewed, but some (many) 1902 issues have dates that close and the distortion makes me unwilling to render an opinion.

Try, if you can, to shoot the coin using a camera with a larger lens and sensor than a Blackberry. Full-face images of both obverse and reverse. My gut tells me that there's nothing untoward about this coin, but there's not enough evidence either way.

Thanks for the fast replies! I will perform a magnet test, and also will try to obtain some better photos.

I took some better pictures with the blackberry, will still try to get a decent camera but hopefully this helps.

to CCF!

Being that this a common date & highly minted at 7,994,000, I would believe it to be authentic. you should also weigh it (26.73g).
