I have a opportunity to purchase this coin it is in... less than good condition. I can see details in the coin better than the pictures. For example in hand I can see the date 178 then the top of the last number looks like the top of a 8
On the obverse it has
Bust facing right
Right side of obverse has *VERMON*
Left side of obverse has *ACTORI*
Reverse
Has a man looks to be sitting with a flag on a pole
and a shield to the right of where he is sitting
Left side of coins has what I think says
ET (dot) LIE (cross or X)
Right side of revers has
INDE (CROSS OR x)
If this is authentic, does this coin have any value in this condition?

It certainly does have value. However I have no clue what value. Hopefully vermontesium will educate us on this coin.
It is could've, would've or should've, not could of, would of or should of.

Ryder numbers are the coding system for die varieties of Vermont coppers; you may have heard of Sheldon numbers for large cents, or Overton for half dollars. There are about forty Vermont copper varieties that can be distinguished by their obverse and reverse dies. I think the base of the (right-facing) bust here, and its position relative to the "V" in Vermont, along with the spacing of the date (which I do believe to be 1788), pins it down as Ryder variety 29.

GR58 first off holy crap. Philadelphian is correct it is a Ryder 29 the tell tail sign is the die crack on the obverse. One and only die like it. Its a Rare variety to say the least. Does it have any value in that condition YES. This ones VG but you get an idea. Amazing find I looked for my Ryder 29 for years and you get one one a whime. Well done. If you just do a Google Images of "Ryder-29," you get a picture of this coin's handsomer twin, next to a picture of Winona Ryder! Coindog is right; that die crack is a way-more-obvious identifying feature, but it looks like the die sinking from the crack tends to obliterate the face of the bust, and the central details of the reverse, on even mint-state specimens. Might that give this one a true grade better than VG?

If you plan on reselling it then yes it would be very worth it. If not for the grade then for the certification of the variety. Thats one heck of a find. I'm jealous.

something doesnt look right about it on the reverse by the inde you can see the + but if thats the case on a 1788 then the obverse should have king george and not spell vermont

The war of independence was over in 1783. Edit: Thinking about it, I am not sure who is on the the obverse .. I would not have guessed King George .. I guess I will doing some more reading
