I pretty well tortured this coin. When I got it, it had the 2 parts of a pin clasp soldered to it. I heated it and removed the solder as best I could, then used an air eraser with baking soda as an abrasive to try and get the rest of it off. Yep ... I sandblasted it. I bought it, a Half Dime with a hole in it and a crappy Indian Head cent ... for 15 dollars. You couldn't tell if it had any mint mark with the mounts on it. It's probably worth no more now than when it had the mounts given the surface damage from the solder removal at 6 o'clock on the reverse, but I like it better...and it was dirt cheap. I'll bet seeing that CC pop out surprised you. Before it was just a junk 1876 Seated quarter. Now it's a junk 1876-CC Seated quarter that will be in more demand when you want to sell. You did good removing the mount and finding the CC. |

That was indeed a surprise. I would have never expected it to be a CC in a hundred years. I know it's a pc of junk silver, but pretty cool as junk silver goes....and I'm into it at the right price point.

Chance, now that you have "saved" the quarter it is by no means junk silver anymore with the CC mint mark. The details look like this is at least an XF 40 coin Numismedia lists an XF-40 at $198.00 and you should be able to get at least $100.00 for it as is as a hole filler. If you plan on selling it I know someone who would delighted to add this quarter to their collection as is. Ed ANA LM-3175 |

Surprise! surprise! you have a scarce example with the "A" reverse, which is same exact die used on 1873-CC No Arrows. This is the scarcest reverse die of the 1876-CC emissions, which is paired only with Briggs Obverse 1 or 2.

Of note, if you choose to sell it, a 7070 collector would be in the market for this exact coin.

That's exactly where it resides right now....in my 7070. I'll leave it there until I can replace it with something with original surfaces.

Searched every image in the computer. I must have deleted it. It may reside in my old computer, but it's a big old desktop and stored away in my shop. I kept it when the power supply went bad, succombed to my wife's desire to get a laptop, and finally got around to putting a power supply in it ... but it's going to be awhile before I resurrect it. I'm going to use in down in my shop, but need a new keyboard and a wireless card before that happens.
