I most certainly don't recommend or condone the treatment of coins in this manner But this had already been done and the "I don't have one of these" kicked in and I couldn't help myself. The gold can slowly migrate into the coin, and silver into the plating. This effect is more obvious, if the plating is very thin. There seems to be very little loss of detail in this case, I guess because the plating is very thin. That seems to be the case here. Fortunately, the plater didn't pick on a very top grade coin to plate. Sometime in the future, I may get a Walking Liberty half gold plated. Report this Post to the Staff
