Has anyone seen one of these coin holders? It's spring loaded (all in good working order) and currently full! I'm just starting on going through this inheritance...any ideas what one of these would be worth? Sorry about the blurry pic...

Yes, I have seen one or two of these over the years. 'Coin dispenser' would be a more accurate description. Most of them were made out of bronze or brass, heavily silver plated. Worth $10 or so, as an antique.
These were made before WW11 when the silver coins would all have been .925 sterling silver. A .925 florin in 1935 would represent $5 in buying power in 2013.
From a numismatic viewpoint, that is NOT how you store coins!

Hi Noodled ..... I've seen two on ebay so far this year. The latest was 160970153769 and went for $38.99 + post. The earlier one 160948198146 isn't available on ebay, but it went for more than $20.

The ones I have seen in antiques shops have all been around the $30 mark. Quite interesting. I dont know how practical they would have been over a purse or wallter. Probably more of a novelty than anything.

Hey sel_691, Thanks for the info. Do hope you mean WW1 not WW11 I read on an earlier post that you shouldn't keep coins in PVC bags...is that correct?

Correct. Just make sure that the coins don't jingle together, otherwise 'bag marks' on the coins are the result. This is why newly minted coins ex mint for circulation have dings in them. However, all bags that could be used for food are polyethylene, not polyvinyl chloride,(i.e. not PVC).

Personally I really like it. Whilst it would do no good for the coins I love the design and the antiquity.!! Perhaps it belonged to the first ever 'Taxi Driver'.

I thought about the one I saw on ebay a while ago, and nearly had a go at it. Interesting.

Actually, I think they're kind of handy. It makes keeping that darn change in line and being able to find a 5 cent pc easily could be gold...problem is that today's currency just doesn't fit!

The 5,10 and 20 cent coins are the same size as the 6d,1/- and 2/- coins. They should fit but why would you want to
