Please Help Identify Medal/Insert On Plaque C1919 / French?

I am new to this forum, and have researched this piece for hours to no avail. I found this at an estate sale and it immediately caught my eye. It is an odd, striking piece, and to be frank, I am uncertain if describing this item as a medal is correct. Its diameter is 2-3/4" and it appears to be brass. Its depth is approximately 1/4" (at least to the wood, in which it has been inserted). It features what appears to be a possibly blind woman with her right hand near her face. Unfortunately I cannot remove it to peer inside or on its reverse (or, perhaps more correctly, I am extremely reluctant to). Although quite heavy, I am not convinced it is completely solid as it sounds subtly different when gently tapped at different locations. For what it's worth, there is a handwritten note on the back in black ink, in French, as follows: Miss Stella Mia Pulford, souvenir reconnaissant de Adelaide Geroge Cheron, Janvier 1919. A search of Ms. Pulford appears to reveal that she was married to a British merchant in Jamaica; the in gratitude portion to Ms. Cheron has not borne any additional information. Lastly, what appears to be a maker's mark is located at the lower right of the piece near the woman lowest visible hair. It appears to be an "A" inside of a larger "C", and there may be possibly be another character next to the "A." I have looked numerous times through a loupe and simply cannot ascertain exactly what it is. Again, I would like to thank anyone out there in advance who may be able to offer any insight or assistance. This piece now has me completely intrigued. Frazzle Pillar of the Community United States 505 Posts	Posted 05/12/2013 1:46 pm I believe that this is probably a Uniface Medal,so,I wouldnt advise removing it from the plaque,as,there probably isn't anything to see on the reverse...Information on this particular medal will be hard to find!!
