Lost A Lucky Penny Last Weekend

Last weekend when I was in Montreal attending a conference, I lost my lucky penny. It was a well worn 1916 that looked like it may have been run over by a train or hammered flat on one side. As a result it wasn't really round, more oblong in shape. It had a nice rainbow patina and was my "pocket piece" and was extensively used to calm my fidgety finger.

I really loved the thing. Always had a soft spot for beat-up coins.

Anyways, during one of the presentations I was fiddling with my penny and dropped it on the floor. Unfortunately the carpeting absorbed the sound and I couldn't tell where it went. I never saw it again.

I hope it found its way to a good owner.

I often wonder where our coins have been before we took possession of them and where they will go after they leave us. I am reminded of a famous saying: "In this life we appear for but a brief moment, but what happened before and what will follow we are utterly ignorant".
