These don't spell the end of the dies use. It is just a hurdle in its life. Report this Post to the Staff

I checked a few websites and found that the mint mark on Eisenhower dollar should be D (Denver) or S (San Francisco) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisenhower_dollar. The mint mark on your coin appears so probably because of post mint damage. I would suggest you get your coin examined from a professional coin grading agency so that you are totally sure of what you have is an authentic coin. Once you get it graded, your coin is packed in tamper-proof packaging, plus a grading certificate http://www.meritgold.com/product-de...-1-1921-ms64. They check the authenticity of the coin as well. Like Coop said, the tiny post that forms the inside of the D either wore away or broke off. The filled mintmark is not enough to pull the die so I consider coins like this a die state and not an error coin (but that is just a personal opinion). I would not send this in to be slabbed. The most common example is the 1979-S Type 1 vs. Type 2 and Denver coins from the 1970s frequently have an indistinct mintmark. Report this Post to the Staff
