Interesting Find From Circulation

Sadly, I have "coin collectors" WORKING AT MY BANKS !!.....

My mom found 2 silver Roosevelt dimes a few months ago. Glad I taught her how to find them :)

I always checked reject trays of the coinstar machines everywhere (as I drive back and forth from home and college) and I never see anything in them.

A co-worker of mine found a Mercury dime in the cash register today, and gave it to me, since she knows I collect. Actually, she didn't know what it was, but she said it was different-looking, so she swapped it out for me. It's a 1943 D, fine condition. That makes one Mercury dime, one silver Roosevelt, a 1923 Buffalo nickel, lots of old Jeffersons, and a few wheat pennies, including an ef 1909 VDB, all in the cash register.
There is also a Coinstar machine at the Wal-mart I work at. It's right by customer service, so every time I go up there to get returns, I glance at the reject tray, but nothing yet. I think the ladies that work up there keep it empty :)

I'm not sure exactly what it rejects, probably anything with a lot of damage. It may go by the weight of the coin, although I don't know how that would be possible as quickly as it counts the coins. I know it usually rejects foreign money, and I think silver. When I used to live in Lancaster (TX) people would sometimes take the rejects out of the tray and lay them on the counter, as if they knew people like me were coming for them. I found a lot of foreign coins that way as a kid.

Where is the reject tray located on the coinstar machines?

On the left side of the machine, there is a metal tray on a hinge. People bring their can of change and dump it in this tray. When the machine, which has a screen on it like a computer, says it's ready, then the person pulls the tray up and dumps the coins through a slot and into the machine. As the coins are being counted, the coins the machine "doesn't like" gets spit out into a little tray lower right of the big tray, just like getting change from a Coke machine. Many people just leave the "rejects," there, assuming they're all just old, dirty, good-for-nothing coins. Check the big tray too; many people are in such a hurry that they leave coins in there also.

Wonder could I just pour tons of coins into one of these machines and have it sort out all the good stuff.

It almost sounds like it. Heard it kicks silver, wheats any expired coinage. What do you think?
