Poll Question
The ideas about future commemoratives? thread got us talking about a Railroad themed commemorative:

Eaglefoot states:
Quote:
I think they should do something commemorating the Railroad.
Huge in "opening up" this country and quite an achievement for that time or "any" time really, when you consider the mountainous terrain and the labor issues and Indian rights, etc. etc. etc. The joining of "East and West". The undertaking and the completion of such a grand idea and even the fierce hurried competition between two railroad companies.....rather fascinating really.

This discussion resulted in some interesting preliminary designs from COINAHOLIC:

and from Jeffreyice1:

This poll was suggested by COINAHOLIC:

Quote:
Sounds like we need you to start another poll jbuck to see if we should submit the design collectively from members of CCF?

I would like to see if there is any interest in having a forum inspired drive for this or any new commemorative coin. The ultimate decision to have a CCF sponsored effort would be entirely up to Mom and Dad, but I find this an interesting topic for discussion!

Poll Choices
I would support the effort for a Railroad Commemorative
I would support the effort of some other themed commemorative
I do not support any forum sponsored commemorative effort

if its a CCF commemorative shouldn't it have CCF somewhere on it, if not it would just be a railroad commem, and what does a locomotive have to do with CCF anyway? I remember awhile back the KOTCT had Daniel Carr to make some coins/commems for us but it was a huge task and took a huge effort to get started and to finish it up so this may be a bigger headache than you would think

I really like this idea. I'm in for sure as for including ccf somehow, didnt trains have names or numbers on the side to identify them? couldn't the id be ccf1 or ccf2 or whatever seems fitting? then the idea is still intact and we'd get our kick and recognition out of seeing the ccf part.

It is a project for CCF to help push through yet another commemorative coin and the subject being discussed is a railroad design.
It is not a coin to commemorate CCF; we are planning that one for 2055!

Maybe not, but "CCF" somewhere as the designer's initials would be rather awesome

If by some odd chance this project actually ends in success, I would most definitely like to see CCF somewhere on the coin for the designer's initials!

Cool! And on the back you could have a boxcar with a couple of bindlestiffs in the doorway.
And chocolate coins. If I ever get past that one problem, I'll collect them, too.

What a cool idea!
For as much as I've said about needless coin programs, I'd like one for railroads, particularly a series on the evolution of the steam locomotive. I'm such a hypocrite.

Here's what my town is doing......it was a great "restoration" project too.

Quote:
In 1986, a group of railroad enthusiasts with a dream of celebrating Topeka's railroad heritage came together to produce the first "Topeka Railroad Days" at Forbes Field on Labor Day week-end. The success of the event prompted them to establish the non-profit corporation Topeka Railroad Days, Inc. to further promote railroad heritage and implement the Festival. The Topeka Railroad Days Festival blossomed and grew over the next 15 years and became a regional, if not national, attraction every Labor Day.

Topeka Railroad Days, Inc. also took on the project of restoring the old Union Pacific Station to create a railroad heritage museum, and in the process changed its name to Railroad Heritage, Inc. In 2004, the restored station opened to the public as the Great Overland Station.

The mission of Topeka Railroad Days/ Railroad Heritage, Inc. continues to be "to celebrate the railroad heritage of Topeka". Once again, a festival is being held to promote that mission, this time on a smaller scale and at the site of the Great Overland Station. "Topeka Railroad Festival", Saturday August 30, 2008, is a new adventure with dynamic entertainment, excellent food and beverage, great vendor exhibits and lots of fun activities. It's a family-friendly event close to home! We hope visitors will join us on August 30 to enjoy all that "Topeka Railroad Festival" has to offer - and maybe begin a new Topeka tradition!

This is the old Railroad Station that they restored here.

I would assume we would have to get a couple of representatives to sponsor this for us.
