Received this in change yesterday. Any ideas what's going on here? I'm stumped. Copper stripe running thru obverse.

v, have you tried a little acetone to see if this is stain from maybe a marker of some kind ?

Just a little environmental exposure that stained the coin.

. I did not try acetone but did try to rub it off with my shirt. Did nothing. If it's a stain, I'm surprised it is so straight. It does look like copper core. That's what prompted me to post to see what others thought. Thanks!

Could be a magic marker/sharpie applied at one time and it stained the metal. that would be my take on it. Only the defacer knows for sure what happened.
