Been collecting Morgan CC's for a while now and also have 4 coins in the GSA holders/graded. Is it true or not, that you can also find other Morgans in the GSA holders that are not CC mint? All the ones I have ever held were CC.

I have even seen some heavily circulated coins from the GSA hoard. It's been awhile since I saw a non CC specimen, but I think the packaging was different.

Here's a link to an 1884-O currently offered on eBay. The ones sold early on must be packaged differently, because the second link is to an 84-O in the normal GSA holder.

GSA softpacks ... cellophane with a GSA plastic disk, featured circulated Morgans from many years and mints. The hardpacks were reserved for uncirculated Morgans and I believe on CC mintmarks.

Most of the non-CC Morgans were in soft packs but there were a small number released in the black GSA hard cases, they tend to have hefty premiums over a non-GSA coin of same year/mint/grade. This post has a listing of non-CC coins available in the GSA slab.

the softpacks may not look as nice but they are allot more rare than the hard packs are, the Non CC Hard Packs are allot more rare than the CC version also. It didn't matter if it was a Carson City or any other Mint mark that was in the vaults, if the GSA found them in the vaults they placed them in the same cases. As SeatedNut said above the ones they felt were circulated went into soft packs and the ones that looked uncirculated with toning or something else didn't have the word "Uncirculated" on the hard packs, and the Blast White coins went into the hard packs that had the words "Uncirculated" stamped on it. That is why you see some of the hard packs that doesn't have that word included on there, back then toning was considered damage to the GSA I guess

Does anyone have a photo of a GSA softpack? I don't think I've ever seen one. I would appreciate it.

In the GSA sale "The Coins Jesse James Never Got" June 1, 1973-July 31, 1973 there was a category called "Potluck" that contained 95,000 circulated Morgan and Peace dollars (excluding CC mint)in mylar envelopes like the photo above (minimum bid $3) and 28,000 uncirculated Morgan and Peace dollars in the plastic presentation case (minimum bid $5). Both groups sold out, average bid $3.90 for the soft packs and $7.66 for the Uncs

Nice photo. I was right, I have never seen one before. I need to keep my eyes open from now on. That soft pack sure doesn't look like it gives that coin much protection. Anyway, thank for the photo.
