I'm by no means an avid coin collector so bare with me if I ask you to explain things. thank you -pfc shuler. Identified - moved to Classic US coins forum - Sap

proto3789 You told us you got the coin but you give no description or photo. If you give us either we will try to help you identify what you have.

is there any way of telling if it's fake or not?

Hi there, These are faked by the million, and are extremely common fakes. One spot cheek would be to measure the diameter and weight - although not 100% definitive, if they are off it will confirm if it is fake. A real piece should be 38mm wide, and weigh 27.2 grams. Hopefully it was quite cheap from bazaar?

It has what appears to be rust spots, meaning that it is probably counterfeit. Test it with a magnet, if it sticks it is fake.

But if it doesn't stick to a magnet that does NOT mean it's real. From what I see it is not real.
