I finally bought a digital microscope camera. I have suspected that this one is a small date but I have not been able to post a good enough picture to get 100% confirmation from the experts.

I still have a lot of practicing to do with this camera, but I think these pictures are close enough to for someone to confirm once and for all. Is this a small date?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Looks like it. I kind of use the overall distance to the rim, including the motto.

Yes, it is still in the cello from an uncirculated set.

Which brings me to my second question. Do I leave it in there, or do I send it in to a TPG?

That's always a tough call.

Some would say keep it as mint set, because the value of the mint set is sure to appreciate. Some would say bust it out so that there is one less mint set, making theirs appreciate. It all depends on your plans for this coin. If you plan on selling it or if you think it would grade on the high end - maybe. If it's just for your personal collection - I wouldn't have it graded. A) you know it's MS, B) you know it's authentic.

What's your ultimate plan for it?

My Plan for it is to keep for a long time

But my concern is that, when I meet my demise, my wife, kids, or grandkids, might sell it as a regular mint set.

Also did not know if the 70 s small date and the 70 d Half sell for a higher premium is sold separately.

Do you still have the envelope that the set came in? You could always put a note on it pointing out that there are at least 2 VERY desirable coins in there. Or put a note inside if you don't want to mess up the original.

As far as selling individually, who knows? It's a good possibility, due to the fact that one "bidder" may only need the small date and not interested or doesn't need the Kennedy, or vice-versa. On the other hand, there are your mint set collectors.....

Personally, I would pop it out in heartbeat and put it in a airtite and sell the rest if not needed for other sets. I personally don't trust the wrappers from keeping moisture from the coin. If it is bright red, I would attempt to keep it that way. As for grading, you would spend a fair amount of the coins value in grading so any gain is lost. I would put good pics up here and as for grading help. Once established, I would mark accordingly. Anyone worth their salt recognizes a MS coin and identifying it as a SD will establish it's value.

So much easier to make this determination at a bazillion times actual size on my monitor than it is through a loop with one in hand.

Congrats on the find!

Definately a small date.

If you submit it to a TPG in the original cello, it will probably come back AT. LOLOLOLOL ....don't laugh, I've seen it happen!
