I'm trying to decide if I care to collect both mint marks for my uncirculated Presidential Dollars. Once they are inside a Dansco, the mint mark is not even visible.
Here's the available Dansco's:
7184 P&D Mints (2007-2015) 7186 Date Set (2007-2015) 8184 With Proofs (2007-2011) 8185 With Proofs (2012-2016)
Does anyone know for sure if the 8184/8185 has 3 slots per President? What I'd really like is a Dansco with 2 per president: one proof and one non-proof coin. So it'd be like a 7186 with proofs.
I plan on waiting to buy an album until there is more clarity on how the coins for the recent (living) Presidents will play out.
I have the same dilemma and have still not bought an album for the Presidential Dollars. I also want to collect the proofs, but do not know if collecting the business strikes by mint would be necessary. I suppose "just knowing" that I have both mints would be satisfying, even if I could not visually confirm that I had both once they are in the album. I have also thought about collecting just the proofs, since I have more of those than business strikes already.
Since I do not collect rolls, I won't have that problem!
Thanks to your post, I am starting to get that "crack the proof set" fever again. I have been wondering if the series will come to its end before I decide which album to get.
I have 2 sets in the 8184. They have 3 slots per president and 1 year per page. Each album page is preceded by a page with all 4 presidents pictures for that year on one side and facts for each on the other. Only Dansco I've ever seen doing that. True you take the mint mark on faith.
I've just been putting the BU's (D mint only) into folders and an album for now. I plan to eventually have a sharp looking Proof album of these in Dansco....but probably not a P & D inclusive one. I do have, and will continue to get, the P & D coins as well......but they're in OGP complete Sets, and I'm not sure that I'll want to "set those free" and break up the Uncirculated Sets since 2007 to rob the Prez. coins from them to do it. But I do buy an individual Presidential Dollar Proof Set each year to secure my plan of having all of them in a nice Dansco Proof album someday when (or if) this is all over.
The "D" mint only (one holer album/folders) that I keep up with, are really kind of just for fun !
But yeah.....we've all got plenty of time to decide "how" exactly or even "if" we want to collect these ! (many do not have any interest in them)
Coin collecting isn't always just about the money !
Quote: I have been wondering if the series will come to its end before I decide which album to get.
The end of the series should be known by the end of 2014 or early 2015, taking the 2-year rule into account. So you have a little time left!
I'm of the opinion that, as the law is written, even if Carter does not die by mid-2014, Reagan will have his face on a coin in 2016. But others believe that Carter has to die first in order for Reagan to be honored.
Steve199 Funny you started this thread, I just got my Dansco 7184 in the mail yesterday. I choose the 7184 because it was one book, where the set with proofs was two books. I will have all the proofs with the sets I order each year but not sure if I will break them open yet.
I placed what coins I had loose in the album for right now, but in my mind I might try to put a burnish finish and a business strike in either the P and D holes ... but not really sure yet.
I like how this book is set up, it has 2 years per page, 16 coins. The insert has portraits of the presidents on one side with history facts about them on the flip side of that insert.
I hadn't seen that thread, and for the first time I understand where Conder is coming from. My interpretation would say that if Carter is skipped (because he is still alive in mid-2014), then Carter may not be eligible to appear on the coin, even if he dies in time to otherwise be eligible under the program.
But I would also say the law would most likely be renewed/amended to put Carter on a coin in that case.
