Roll searching last night and I came across a 1953 Jefferson ....... flipped it over to check mintmark ..... and there was good 'ole Thomas staring at me again.

A double headed magicians coin ...... 1952/1953. Interesting enough novelty that I'll set it aside.

Seems like somebody went to some trouble to make this ...... wonder why they turned it loose?

Anybody else find something like this in their searches?

David

Yep,I found one about 6 months ago and gave it to my son who is a magician. I think he said they go for $10-15 at magic shops.Actually,I just checked and they run from $2.50-5!

Send it to SGS. They'll authenticate it and call it MS70 :-)

Never nickels, but I just found two loose halves that are magicians coins. They have the proper reverse "installed" at the moment and I wouldn't have known they were any different until the coin counter rejected them. I just edge scanned them when I got them and threw them into the return pile!

I have found a couple. It's interesting how they hollow out one coin to adhere the obverse to the hollowed out reverse of the original. Usually you wind up with the seam being right along the top edge (or bottom edge) of the coin and sometimes it's hard to see. Interesting all the same.....and really exciting for about two minutes until you realize what it is. This is a great hobby.

I bought one for 8 bucks I think, but it is a 1982 P nickel on both sides and it's a nice job too, both sides look AU+. 1982 P nickels get a premium but this isn't the best way to get the most out of that date.

At the very least, you can sell them back to a magic shop.

The trick is called "Scotch and Soda" and I've won MANY beers with it.

I've found two of them. One 1981P on both sides, and one that's a 1961 on one side and a 1964 on the other.

Just one more reason to flip them all over regardless of the condition.
