I don't know if coin terms are universal or not, but here in the US, we'd call that just a die chip. A cud usually involves the rim. At least for us.

In Australia, any lump of metal on a coin that isn't designed to be there is usually called a cud. If it's on the rim, it's a Rim cud.

I read somewhere once that cud stood for 'coin under developed', but don't know if that's really what it's supposed to mean or not.
A friend is a present you give to yourself.

As I venture outside the US, Australian coins are definitely one of my favorites.
