Hi,

I have the coin as pictured, although there is plenty of info on the net about 1616 one Anna coins, I cannot find one with this image on the reverse.

Any ideas please.

Thankyou all

This appears to be a modern forgery. The "UKL" does not appear as far as I know on any authentic EIC coin. "Coins" such as these appear frequently on eBay.

Yes - it's a modern ...."thing" I say thing because I'm not really sure what it's supposed to be. Obviously based on the East Indian Company style of coins but they never had that sort of obverse. It could be some sort of Temple token designed in a antique style

Hi.

I figured it was a forgery, it was just the design on the reverse that got me stumped. Thanks for the quick replies.

Have a few of them too, bought them in India along with some real coins... I said to the man they were fake, but he assured me they were real. So I bought them for a buck, because he was a nice old man on the street Later talking with another man, he pointed out that back in those days they did not portrait their gods onto the coins! So I knew for sure they were fake, as is this one..

It is another temple token, not a coin.

I know my post is far removed from the original posts, so please humor me. I found this "coin" on eBay and thought it would make a nice necklace for my wife:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1840-EAST-I...:BOC:US:1123

I did some research (just google East India Company temple coin) and found out that these are modern fakes. Apparently they are manufactured for the tourist trade. There were actual temple coins, back in the day, but these are NOT genuine. The research I turned up (CoinQuest) states never to pay more than $5 for one. The thread I've included is deceptive. It, eventually states that it is a temple token, but the listing calls it a copper coin. There's one on eBay right now for $49.99 ! This is a trap for many collectors who would not know any better. Buy one if you like, many are quite beautiful, but know what you're buying. Jack
