I recently purchased a 1863 Ft. Dix Civil War Token and was surprised to find a major error on both sides. The Flag side has disfigured stars on it and the Fort Dix side has an error on"ATTEMPTS", the P is too close to T. The only error for Civil War Tokens I know of is the "Shoot him on the Spoot" one. Has anyone seen the error types I have? Also do you think this Token us valuable?

Civil war tokens went from low-life scum in the 70's to high end valuables in the 2000's.

I know many CWT collectors (they also have great catalogues and organization) but none collect varieties. I'm sure someone does but I don't think there is much competition except for the really obvious ones.

Lots of CWT have errors and varieties.

Hi kkling4 to the forum.

Unfortunately I don't know much about DIX tokens errors, but the basic value is pretty easy to figure out.

The die variety on the flag side looks like F-207, while the legend side looks like F-412 to me. That die combination is an R3 on the rarity scale which means somewhere between 500 and 2000 were struck, and it has a potential value of about $9 in G condition to $40 in UNC.

kkling4, The die crack at the top of the flag side, and the disfigured stars on your token are indicative of a late (degraded) die state, rather than errors.

I believe that the SPOOT tokens are R2, but can't find my reference text.

Thank you. Is that reference guide on-line somewhere?
