As can be deduced from my forum name here on CCF, I enjoy collecting commemorative coins. While the bulk of my collection is comprised of US coins, I also enjoy collecting certain World coins.

I thought it would be interesting to see what World coins folks have that highlight a direct tie-in to a shared history with the US. It's an area that I actively collect; I've posted a few times about them here on CCF (One example: 1987 US-Morocco Friendship Bicentennial.

To kick things off, here's a Republic of France coin from 2003 that commemorates the 200th anniversary of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase - a seminal event in US history that took place under the Thomas Jefferson presidency.

I look forward to seeing what others have to share!

These are not US coins but were minted at the San Francisco mint and they were a commemorative for the hero of the Philippines people and generally were not intended for circulation.

@TNG: Great add! The MacArthur coins were the first coins issued by the newly-independent Republic of the Philippines.

They were designed by Laura Gardin Fraser; the designs are in shallow relief.

My well went dry already.
Looking around I cannot find any other coins in my collection.
My two coin 1998 Ladies Of Freedom set is the closest connection to this thread I can get but there is no US connection on the single Britannia 2 pound coin except for packaging and my two coin Leif Erickson mentions America on the 2000 Iceland 1000 kronur but that would have nothing with the United States in his time.

Here's an interesting release from the Netherlands back in 2009 - it commemorates the country's ties to Manhattan/early New York.

If you'd like to learn more about the coin, check out my previous post on it: 2009 Henry Hudson and Manhattan Island.

Fascinating!

Are we sure it is not her diminutive twin located on Īle aux Cygnes?

I know, the dates would indicate otherwise. Our statue was erected in 1886, theirs in 1889.

I've visited that replica statue! On one of my trips to Paris, I made it a point to walk over to the island and see the statue up close. I was glad I made the effort. (I was the only one there at the time!)

Well done! It is on my list if I ever make it that way. Although at this time I would be happy to get outside my house.
