The First National Bank of Rogers, AR, charter #7789, was chartered on June 15, 1905 and went into receivership on Jan. 13, 1931. The bank issued $5,$10 and $20 1902RS, 1902DB, 1902PB, and 1929 Ty.1 notes. While there are a total of 19 large size notes listed in the T&P census, the 1929 Ty.1 notes are fairly scarce; there are only two $5 notes and this lone $10 note currently listed. I generally avoid notes with comments on the holder; this heavily-circulated note has a tear at the bottom mentioned, but I can live with that in this case! Signatures of cashier W.H. Cowan and president E.F. Jackson.

Thanks, jbuck. Heritage has a number of Arkansas NBN's and scrip coming up in the coming months - I hope to be continuing to add regularly to this set!

The First National Bank of Van Buren, AR, was chartered on August 6, 1904 and liquidated on March 21, 1930. The bank issued $10 and $20 1902RS, 1902DB, 1902PB and 1929 Ty.1 small size notes. It was the only issuing bank in Van Buren. There are ten $10 1929 Ty.1 notes currently in the T&P census. This note, however, is new to the census and will be the highest grade small size note listed (currently there is one VF20 $10, one VF25 $20, with all others listed in grades of VG-F). Signatures of cashier Dell Miller and president J.H. Butler.

Thanks, jbuck and Hondo Boguss! Though I normally don't acquire duplicates, I just acquired two Arkansas notes with the same Rothert number. I had a bid on the PCGS-graded note on Heritage, and I won it last night. Afterwards, I was searching online for some additional information on this note for my records, and wouldn't you know it but the search results turned up another of these in a dealer's inventory! It was a dealer I almost never look at as they specialize in Spanish colonial coins and seldom have anything of interest to me in their inventory. Anyways, the note was a lower grade but in a PMG holder without comments, while the PCGS-graded note has an apparent grade due to rust stains. This particular note is listed in Rothert as a R-5 (11-25 known), so not super scarce but not that common, either. It wasn't expensive, either, so I went ahead and got it. I figure I can use one of these in a trade at some point down the road! $3 note issued by Cincinnati & Little Rock Slate Company in Little Rock, Arkansas. I thought the central vignette was interesting - three cherubs breaking rocks! This note also has a variety printed with a blank back. These are the sellers' pics.

Well done. No need to feel any remorse for the duplication.

Thanks, jbuck! I have a friend in the Little Rock coin club who has a fairly extensive collection of Arkansas notes - in fact, talking with him and seeing some of his notes is what finally gave me the nudge I needed to start my own collection. I plan on checking with him to see if he's interested in a trade for the PCGS-graded note; if not, I'll just hang on to it!

The Citizens National Bank of Camden, AR, charter 14096, was chartered on April 6, 1934. It succeeded The First National Bank of Camden (charter 4066). It underwent three name changes in the early- to mid-1990's, then in 1997 merged and became a part of NationsBank. This charter issued only $5 (s/n 1-5470) and $10 (s/n 1-4500) 1929 Type 2 notes. There are a total of three 1929 Ty.2 $5 notes and eleven 1929 Ty.2 $10 notes in the T&P census. There is a group of low serial number $10 notes (numbers A000001,2,4 and 5, this note) graded XF-AU. Serial number A000006 is also listed, but it's listed in VF. The other six $10 notes are in grades VG-VF. Signatures of cashier Garland Hurt and president J.D. Reynolds, the only signature combination for notes issued by this charter.

Quote: Well done. No need to feel any remorse for the duplication. I totally agree with @jbuck here. I've seen collectors advise others "not to buy the same note twice" & I have not found this to work for me. In fact, I have often bought 2 notes & it was like the 2nd note was thrown in for 1/2 the price (or less) & its always been easy to unload the 2nd note! Anyway, great large $3.00 duo & love the National TENS in such fantastic condition (with EPQ).
