All right, story time... Back in late 2011, when silver had started to drop from it's last stratospheric high, I really wanted to buy a bag of 100 BU Morgan dollars from APMEX. The price on them stubbornly refused to come down below $5000 per bag, however, so I bought a bag of 100 BU Peace dollars instead for $3700 (with spot price at $29.44). But I really wanted the Morgan dollars! Over the years, I periodically checked the price on those bulk BU Morgan dollars, and either the price stayed where it was or (when silver really dropped) the product became unavailable. Well, with silver hitting $45 today, I figured it was time to check again before silver became so valuable that BU Morgans started getting melted down for their silver value. I discovered that APMEX does not have bags of 100 available. I saw they do have rolls of 10 BU random year Morgans available, but for $699 ($69.90 per coin). But then I noticed that individual BU random year Morgans were for sale at $54.99 per coin (which translates to $55 per roll of 10 and $5500 per "bag" of 100). And so, I just decided to finally go for it and purchased a "bag" (more likely five rolls of 20) of random date BU Morgan dollars for $5500. Unless silver someday hits $100 I'll probably never see this as a particularly good investment from a pure bullion standpoint, but at least I can take comfort knowing that I have now rescued 100 beauties from being melted down any time in the near future...

If the price of silver suddenly plummets back down to $20/oz, you can all blame me...

Very cool purchase! I love going through BU rolls. One cool thing about BU Morgans, they tend to hold their value somewhat, regardless of the moving silver price. Do you search the VAM for each? Yes, please give us pics, I love to see these coins in bulk, still hands down my favorite coin.

Quote: Buy! Buy! Buy! I remember the last time that silver hit $40 and everybody (including myself) said that if the prices ever dropped back down significantly that we would back up the trucks and load up. And the the prices did drop sharply and I discovered that either nobody had any to sell or else they all ridiculous premiums of $10/oz or more. As I said in my original post, I waited for years for the price of these BU Morgan dollars to fall as the price of silver fell, and it just never happened.
