Came across this dark 1997.
I thought it looks attractive on the reverse, not so much on the obverse.
This color or "patina" sort of stands out compared to other quarters I find in change.

It could have been outside for some time or it was buried at one time. Could of been a metal detecting find that was put back into circulation.

The term commonly used for such coins is 'circulation cameo'.

This is when coins such as yours have dark surfaces but the high points of the design have later worn to expose lighter colored surfaces.

There is a long running CCF thread devoted to showing such coins - and yours would fit in nicely albeit not as strong as cameo as others.

Perhaps a Moderator can add a link to that thread so you can see for yourself how your quarter fits in.
