I purchased this 1941 silver quarter as uncirculated. Now that I have it in hand, many details seem smooth and there is a mottling or scuffing on high points and devices. I would almost say it looks like light PVC damage. Was this coin cleaned? I see spotty toning, so maybe it was dipped? Under magnification, the feathers on the eagle's breast and the details of Washington's hair seem too smooth. It doesn't strike me that it could be explained away as a late die state, especially with not much distortion on the fields and devices.

I do have the option to return the coin. The eye appeal is decent, but for $12, I would return a cleaned or dipped silver coin. What say you, o' grading pros? Straight grade BU, or Details and punted?

Maybe it was over dipped? The mint luster seems to be muted.

Punted!

Thanks for the help, guys.

Bummer for the seller: they shipped via low-cost ESUS, but apparently the ebay return is accomplished with USPS and specifically requires a box? Yikes!

I wonder if some sellers use that to deter returns. If you specify buyer pays return shipping, but unexpectedly force them to a high-cost USPS option, that might block people from returning coins below $20 in price.
