That's what we call a Dryer Coin....scraped up surface with no reeding. Safe to spend
to CCF ...keep looking, good luck on future finds, have fun and ask again when needed.

Impossible to happen as a cent planchet is bigger than a dime planchet and wouldn't fit in the striking chamber.

That is the copper core that you are seeing.
The nickel plating has just been worn off of the rims.

Jimmy, normally I don't correct old-timers, but ...

US dimes are not plated. They are clad, which is an explosive bonded sandwich of three layers - the outer layers are copper-nickel (75-25), and the core is pure copper.

When struck, the collar (3rd side of the die) imprints the reeded edge pattern.

A coin that is repeatedly struck on the edge (dryers, slot machines, etc.) will have those reeds flattened, giving the coin OP has pictured.

To CCF! I agree with Greasy Fingers. It's a Dryer Coin. PMD. Worth 10 cents.

Not sure if it is a Dryer Coin - the 2 main sides look sanded and the 3rd side (the edge) could also have been sanded to remove the reeds.

What is the weight of this coin?
