Tody I received 6 morgans a 1878 S, 1879 P, 1881 S, 1883 O, 1889 P, 1899 O the grades were supposed to be from MS63 to MS65. ALL are AU 58 but two are AU55 I am really disappointed and contacting the Auction house for return or refund... the 1878 S looks like before it was dipped it may have been PL. I have not had this bad of mis grading of coins from this auction house before but this is really bad! I am out 300.00 + value for what I paid. Edited by RWC112 09/30/2025 7:54 pm

That's a real bummer, RWC. I hope that you get satisfactory resolution. Can you share the name of the auction house so that others know to be on guard with them?

Quote: Key Date Coins Yes, I know them - bought from them years ago. Pay no attention to the grades they assign - fabricated and inflated. They have admitted it. They have been discussed on the CCF but finding those topics is a bit difficult because of the search terms. And I have the feeling that you learned an expensive lesson.

Purchasing coins sight unseen and at the mercy of auction houses is asking for trouble.

From experience and research, I would tread carefully if doing business with Key Date Coins. I could describe my last experience with them several years ago but suffice it to say I had to dispute a purchase through my credit card provider to get money back from a coin that they never delivered, and I got no communication from them after MANY attempts. After researching the owners of this company, I decided to stay far away.

They have been found to have purchased details graded coins, repackaged them in their clean graded slabs, and used the PCGS price guide as comps.
Be aware that they also own the PCI intellectual property, and those newly overgraded, juiced Morgans in new PCI slabs are garbage.
