Hello everyone! I have a Barber quarter from 1898-S that I believe has a doubled die reverse, which is particularly noticeable in the words "Quarter Dollar." Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find much information about this DDR, aside from a brief mention in a survey on barbercoins.org. If anyone has insights or additional information to share, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Don't know if that's a known variety but looks more like slight Machine Doubling.

Thanks, Marv. You may be right. However, I want to be certain, as the website I mentioned in my original post lists it as a DDR and includes a photo. The photo suggests they believe it to be a DDR, but that information could also be incorrect.

Looks like minor Machine Doubling to me.

Any chance of posting that info with the picture?

I love me some Barber quarters...
5 to go to complete my rag tag bunch (believe it or not I have the holy trinity already).
If I remember correctly...the reference to the DDR survey was for the 98-S Dollar?
It's been a while since I looked there, and I could be completely wrong...new computer and lost a bunch of references...?
Thanks for posting and I look fwd to what other Barber knuckleheads think.

When I look at the coins that Wexler has listed as Barber quarter doubled dies, they are much stronger traditional split serifs. I agree that this looks like Machine Doubling.

Thanks for posting - unfortunately it really doesn't confirm anything.

Does anybody know if there was any "Longacre Doubling" on Barber coinage?

Well, if one accepts their diagnosis, then maybe this is a match?
