I've got a Newfoundland 1880 Large Cent graded VF30 by ICCS with the comments "RO ED; Polished" While it is clear that the coin has been polished, and I assume that RO stands for wide or round 0 in the date, what does ED stand for?

Why not call them up and ask? I found a phone number for them in Toronto:

416-488-8620

I did not see a website although you can get a lot of hits about them on Google. If you get answers to your questions please post them. I think a lot of us would be interested.

By the way, welcome!

Finally got through to ICCS re: the 1880 Newfoundland Large Cent. "RO" does stand for round (or wide) 0 in the date, and "ED" stands for even date, the 0 being at the same level as the other digits. The other varieties are a narrow 0, and a low 0, or "LD" as ICCS notates.

Strange they don't have a web site. They are a small grading operation. Maybe in someone's basement?
