While searching a box of pennies, I found a 2009 Formative years penny with what appears to be an extra thumb on the left hand.

That's great! I'm so burnt out searching boxes for them, I think I'll just go the Henning route, as most seem to be showing up in change.

Nice find. If you do not get your answer here, I can move this to the Variety and Error forum for a more focused opinion.

You should also check the Wexler's 2009 listings on doubleddie.com. There are a lot of DDRs for 2009, so you sometimes have to check different references. This looks to be one of the nicer ones though.

Green with envy. LOL Seriously, I'm happy for you.
It wasn't that long ago when I thought that 'mint error' meant that something was wrong with my candy.

This is funny..after seeing this I checked my 2009 sets and both the D and P have the doubled thumb. ( I put together a set of both D and P out of circulation, all examples are AU - MS and were pulled from Canadian rolls since I live in Canada )

The Denver ones are a little harder to find then the Phillies. Can you post a photo of the Denver one please? John1

I don't understand how this Is a doubled thumb when it looks like the part in question is upside down or complete opposite of the thumb. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't doubling always follow the same shape and thickness of the original part?

Isn't a die chip or 012.It is a DDR though and some research is in order to find out which one it is. As for value it isn't much around $5-$8 "book value" but selling it is another matter. John1

It looks like a "2009 1ยข FY WDDR-014" on Mr.Wexler's site. "I don't understand how this Is a doubled thumb when it looks like the part in question is upside down or complete opposite of the thumb." Kman That's because it is not a thumb but part of the index finger.
BEWARE THE FEVER
