I just got this thing in the mail from an E-Bay seller. The 1st photo is from the sale. I know that the sellers photo is very bad but I cropped it and enlarged it and it looked or looks to be a high AU maybe BU coin.
Please let me know what you think of the coin and my assessment from his photo 1st off.
The photos order is the sellers photo and the last 2 are of what was sent!! My opinion is that what was sent is not the same coin. This has no hair detail and the whole relief has heavy ware flat spots. Again Opinions welcome!!
Here is the link from the sale. I was just taking a shot at this one. Even if the the coin was not a great VAM I thought it would be a fair buy even in AU... So much for thinking!!
Yes the lower photo is what was sent!! yuck!

Not the same coin...

Boy, that eBay photo is terrible. I would be afraid to buy that one unless I could see the details to make sure it is not a Chinese fake. Not sure what is going on with the photo of the low grade piece, is that what you received? If so, he sent you a different coin than pictured because even in the lousy eBay photo you could see that amount of wear.

It does NOT look like the same coin to me. Have you contacted the seller?

Yesterday I sent him and E-mail, I still have yet to get a response. Placed and Idem not as described claim around 6:00 PM today. The seller has 40 or 50 items up for sale so I find it odd that 26 hours after the first contact I had not heard from the seller. If its just a mis-shipped idem I understand and that's about what I said in my E-mail, and then asked him or her to please ship the correct idem. As far as E-bay I normally run from bad photos, and after the last really bad photos of an NGC coin that I have no idea how the thing even graded. I will never buy a slabbed coin with a bad photo again. As far as E-Bay is concerned the TPG "Never makes Errors" so if the seller, sells a coin as MS-62 or MS-63 and places horrid photos to hide PMD ...You own it as it is listed as an MS-60 something. Their view is you as a buyer are buy the slab not the coin!

Russ, I would 1st say, YOU are not new at this "Game", that being said, I believe there is a piece of this puzzle not present. I know you know your way around the Numismatic world, especially coins with Anna's face on them....LOL. I mean there is no question the 2-coins are different, totally..... I have NOT been buying from the Bay, but you mean you simply can not get a reply? IF not push the issue with ( Pay-Pal, E-bay) or who ever to get relief from this kind of shaky business , the item received NOT as described should apply here, I wish You Well, Good Luck my Friend!!! PS, You just might have the problem pegged, wrong package sent out..... JMO...

Seeing he has close to perfect feedback - it may have been a mistake. Contact him and see. If not - eBay policies should apply and help you get your $$ back.

I do not wish to hammer him if its just a shipping error we all make mistakes. I was not happy about it taking the seller 5 days to put it in the mail, after I paid for this item 3 min. after the close of the sale. Lord knows when my mother was in hospice I had things get out of wack, but sending an E-mail just takes a second.

I must apologize here because I about couldn't stop laughing long enough to respond as soon as I saw his photos and then yours of the coin sent. That is definitely not the same coin and well if it is, he is better at photographing coins than you are because he made that worn out thing look like it had allot more detail. Must be the lighting he used... I hope you all know I am kidding about the lighting because there is no way anyone could make that coin he received look like the one sellers picture no matter what type of lights you used

No matter what happens; If the seller makes it right himself or not, you are protected & will rec. a refund from paypal. This you probably already know.
I had this happen also. The seller didn't return me emails. I file a claim and inside 2 weeks I had my money back to include shipping costs both ways.

The seller now has 91 items listed about 35 more then 2 days ago so I know the seller is looking at his E-Bay page. But still no response as to where the listed coin went too. I think I will end up just getting my money back and not the coin he had listed .

There's something not right about the whole listing. The more I look at the eBay photo, the more it looks like an 1879 date on the coin and not 1889 as listed. I doubt the seller checked what he was sending and only shipped the 1889-O he had. He must have used the wrong photo in the listing and didn't catch it. At any rate, I think the 48.77 bid was way more than the coin was worth. Best to get your money back if you can.

Yeah, this one's so far off the mark that it would be my leaning to give the seller the benefit of the doubt for an honest mistake. Stuff happens.

I was leaning towards an honest mistake by the seller, but 72+ hours after the 1st e-mail into this and I have yet to have any reply. The sellers only bad feedback states "never returned any e-mails" this one is sounding a lot like that one.
If I hear nothing by Friday of next week from the seller one way or the other, I will mark him Negative. "No reply in 9 days" is in no way good!
