Hi guys
Have a question... If you have say a nicely ranbow toned silver coin, how long will the rainbow toning last ?

Let's say for argument sake the toning is not artificial and the coin is say 70 years old.

Why would the toning disappear ?

I have silver coins that I got in change 50 years ago that had rainbow toning then and still have it.

Admittedly, I didn't take a photo of it then so it might have changed.

I was under the opinion, that since its a chemical reaction, it can over time continue, therefore change and or become unappealing to the eye.

The toning will only change over time if the coin is continually subjected to an oxidative environment. As long as the coins are stored in a neutral environment location with low heat and humidity and away from sulfur-containing carboard products, the toning should be stable for many years to come.
