I was going through a box of nickels and in one roll, pulled a 1968S proof Jefferson. Didn't realize it was proof until today when the coin dealer in town confirmed it. Talk about nice.

I just opened a roll of pennies that I got from the bank for 50 cents, but it turned out to be stuffed with dimes. Not really a notable find from a numismatic standpoint, but funny none the less.

I found a 1975 Lincoln Cent where someone scribed the outline of the state of Arkansas and the initials AR in the middle of the state. The scribed area is in front of lincoln's face. Too strange. |

lperry3- I know just what you are describing. I have one that has the outline of Minnesota and a "MN" inside of the outline. These are "state pennies" or so to speak that were produced in sets in 1976. I think that they were produced by a private firm for reasons relating to marketing a product for the bicentennial. These do not have any real value other than the value of the copper, which is more than one cent.

That is just the information I was looking for Archraz. I spent some time on the net trying to research why this coin had this scribing and came up with all sorts of info, but none of it relating to what I was searching for. I said it before and I'll say it again, awesome site.

Wow, I use halves almost everytime I can but I've never had somebody give me one in change.
My brother went to the bank today to cash a check. He noticed a fifty cent piece in the teller tray and noticed it was from the 1960's. He asked the teller if she could give him that in change and she said sure. Turned out to be a 1969.
My brother is a silver magnet. So far he's found me from circulation that fifty cent piece and two silver dimes in the span of two months. Thats like over six dollars in silver for .70 cents face. Awesome.

My daughter found at 1946S Lincoln in F15 last night! It was just laying in the grass in her Aunt's backyard! LOL  |

Good question, it was a heck of a ground find! It's the lowest mintage for the 1946 series too!

When I was in Spain a while back I got a 2001 Brazilian 25 centavos coin. A really weird circulation find since it doesn't even look like a Euro Denomination. Maybe the people who live in countries on the Euro are just so used to seeing different designs in circulation due to the coins crossing boarders that things like this just slip by.

Found an Israel 1 Agorah in the parking lot outside the coin shop today. Not as interesting but I got a very red 1967 LMC in change. |
