well my mom is always on the lookout for coins for me(I'm 16 lol) and so far from her work and other change she's got: A silver certificate from the 50s(cant remember exact date), 1964 silver dime, and a 1929 Buffalo nickel, those being the notables among many wheats and old nickels. |

I didn't get anything for a few days, and then today all this:   Common 1976 $2 Note, 1961 Nickel, 1941 Mercury dime  and how in the heck does a UK Two Pence end up in a supermarket cash drawer in Denver, Colorado? (I gave the guy a Nickel for it....) I could see the Five Pence earlier this month given to me in place of a Dime (since the diameter and color are basically identical), but a Two Pence just does NOT look even remotely like any current U.S. coin!  |

An Mint-Error Quarter with the copper core showing on both sides would be worth a lot more than "two pence"!  Anyway, today's circulation find is a 1963 B $1 note with the "Joseph W. Barr" Secretary of the Treasury signature (a position he held for only 28 days!)  A nice circulated example of this particular note is likely much rarer than uncirculated examples, which were hoarded when they were new and are all over the place on ebay.... PS: Be careful with the "Buy Silver & Gold" advice to your woman, she may interpret that as "Buy Sterling & 24K Jewelry", which you can't really refute very well if you were the one who was advocating buying bullion... If she buys a little black dress at Target and a 24K necklace, she is then actually following my advice in practical terms! And you certainly gladly have my permission to use that quote in your signature, Yotie! Now my family can clearly see that at least one other person agrees with that... Edited by DNA

Well the power went out for about 45 minutes tonight. I lit some candles then decided it was too quiet. In my tackle box I have a battery operated radio that would do the trick. While looking in my tackle box, I found a plastic bag with a dollar bill showing thru it. I must have bought some tackle and threw the change in the bag since I was fishing and forgot about it.
Ended up being a $1 star note. Nothing special, just not what I expected. It was a nice surprise since I was kind of ticked about the power outage.

Of course, someone just had to mark up a crisp 1950 Series $10 Note with an 'anti-counterfeit marker' before I got it in change....    |

Don't worry so much about the mark. It goes away after a few days but it will still have a slightly yellow streak :(

At least this one didn't get marked!    I traded two new 2009 Sacagawea Native American dollar coins to get this note from the cashier's drawer!  Yes, the '09's were from my 'car wash' coin tube in my jacket pocket....  Now, if a cashier told you that he'd trade you a two-dollar bill for two of your new Dollar coins, wouldn't you think it was going to be a 2003 Series note?! (which still would have been just fine with me!) That still doesn't beat when I traded a roll of 25 Martin Van Buren 'car wash' Dollars to the coin dealer for a BU 1888-O Morgan, just before I was going to wash my car with some of them.... This means that somewhere in Denver, there's Presidential dollar albums with coins in them that came this close to being used in the car wash..... Edited by DNA

That is one of my favorite notes. Maybe because when I was a kid they were rarely ever used.
I remember seeing them for the first time and thinking how odd they were. I expected a three dollar bill next, but the only place I think I ever heard of them was on The Addams Family.

I get old 2's all the time at Churchill Downs race track. They run through so much cash there it's insane. Edited by tornandfrayed75
