I don't know why I never caught this before. Probably because I look at the coin and not the slab.

Anyway, I was getting ready to throw some Gold Buffaloes up on Ebay and caught this.

I have a 2006 burnished Gold Buffalo in an NGC First Strike slab graded MS 70. HOWEVER, the top line of the slab says, "2006 EAGLE G$50" then .9999 FINE-FIRST STRIKES. (I am guessing somebody got an Eagle marked as a buffalo.) Makes you kind of wonder how many coins don't get in the correct slab and are therefore mis-graded, huh?

The bar code number is a Gold Eagle series number.

SO, do I ask for a corrected slab? Will they then re-grade it? Will I lose the First Strike status?

OR, just throw it up on Ebay and note the discrepancy

Thanks,

Seth

NGC customer service should be able to tell you what to do and would be an easy fix.

I wouldn't throw it on ebay even with that disclaimer because somebody might try to lodge a protest or some complaint once they get it and it could cause you some headaches. Even if you explain it, it could still be misunderstood since it is unusual/mislabelled, and some people would still make an issue of it (sad but true). I would definately talk to the grading company and let them handle it as a first option

Plus, you don't want to take a chance on compromising your feedback on Ebay if something goes awry.

Good point. TNX. (I wonder if the guy that sold it to me had seen it.)

I looked at the others and they have the same number series, so it must have been a typo.

Tell NGC your going to sell it to PCGS!... Unless they make it right & give you 10 free slabs. Might work.

I didn't have to get that extreme. They responded in a day and were helpful and nice about it.

It is a MECHANICAL ERROR and will be corrected free. They gave me the procedure.

Of course, I have to pay the shipping. At least I am not paying a dealer markup on that.

Maybe gold will go up by the time it gets back!

Seth

I'd think twice about sending it back...some folks pay good money for slabbing errors and that one could bring in some extra money.

Yes they will fix it, but you will lose the First Strike label.

Yeh, I asked them about that but they never answered that part. What I was hoping for is that it would now say it's a "First Release." That WOULD make it a one-of-a-kind. I'll call them.
