Thanks to a friend, I was sent an variety book which helped me spot this "high 7" variety. Funny how I didn't notice it without the book--it's pretty obvious.

Of course...my hobby is all about high-magnification. I received the coins today--thanks so much! I'll post big photos later.

All the 1927 Halfpennies I have seem to be the same as the one in the top post and I have no info on varieties for them, although I mainly concentrate on the Pennies. I did find the two below though as I looked through the '20's coins. The top pic shows a leaning 9 and the date spans 13 denticles, while the bottom pic has an upright 9 and 12.5 denticle span.

What about the tail on the nine itself? One is sharp the other is thicker.

Those pics sure help me see the difference. A while back, I spotted this 1921 in a bargain bin:

Awesome, DV! I have yet to check mine.. I hope I find some interesting stuff, as well. Do you have a 'normal' 1927 for comparison?

Xshift, thanks again for that book! Good luck on your search...I'll have to see if there's another '27 here.

To be honest, I thought all '27 halfpennies were like this, I just double checked and I don't have a "normal 7" at all. Makes me wonder what the harder type of 7 is to find?

Jackool, Thanks for checking! I'll keep looking for the "normal" 7.
