The 2010 VAMView Price Guide only has two recorded sales of this one. An AU50 sold for $400 and an AU58 sold for $2500. That's all the help I can muster.

The 1884-S VAM 8 has a rarity rating of 5. A rarity rating of 5 means the coin is rare (several thousands)

very true as those have stated above,,,,,minor errors that may not have many known examples don't compare to a coin with many multiple and major error's, those with a lot going on and having few known examples can bring huge premiums such as the 1878 8tf vam44.......others may be an R6 where most don't bring high premiums..such as many of the 1921 series die breaks....of course grade has alot to do with it, but EX and lower don't seem to bring a high value to the table even though they are reported as R6... as stated above the interest is what brings the value up.....several hundred or thousand would allow many to collect the vam, but not every one could have one, so demand drives up something that could complete one's collection, 10 piece's of one certain vam can't fill the need of all the collectors out there so there is not much interest but if you have one Yes your interested......Hope that helps....
