I just bought this piece and thought I'd share it on here.

Haven't received it yet but I'm very pleased with the look of it. Also it's unslabbed so any opinions on grade?

(having problems uploading picture of the other side - i'll get one up soon!)

Nice piece, I'm jealous. Interesting that they issued a copper penny for a colony a few years prior to the mainland. There's a good chance it's a "late Soho", i.e. restrike - they did the same with the Geo 3rd UK pennies.

yes that's the reverse. I've been reading up on the type, it has quite an interesting history summarised here:http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/Col....intro.html.

I quite like the theory on some of them being captured by the French, as I've honestly seen a fair few of these for sale in France, including the one I bought, and had wondered why!

That's a beauty, would like to see a picture of the reverse when you receive the coin. From what I can see on the obverse I would give it a tentative grade of AU-58.

Ill take better pics and post them as soon as it comes. I bought it on the presumption it would be a high AU, with fingers crossed when I get it in hand and see it it might make it as MS. Then I'll have the difficult decision of keeping or selling, it will be a tough one.
