Hey guys, kinda new here.
Just a quick question: I know velvet is the prefered surface for laying down coins, but how does felt work?
I found a scrap of it laying around the house and have been using it for CRH.
No good?

I have used a felt square that we had when I am organizing and roll hunting and it has never caused any probems for me. I might not use it if I were working with proofs or anything just in case because felt seems more abrasive than velvet, but it seems fine for my roll hunting use.

I have seen felt stuck to a few coins, but it's possible that heat melted the glue holding the felt down and seeped through to the coin. I prefer to sort coins on a solid surface so that the rim of the coin would suffer any wear, not the surface of the coin.

Always remember that man made products are seldom exactly or in many instances not even close to each other. As an example Felt could be made of Cotton, Wool, Wooden fibler, etc. What some people may be using as felt for coins is probably not the same as others use. And some may and some may not discolor or corrode a coin. When in doubt, don't use Felt.

I have used felt lining around a coin capsule, housed in a modified display box, but I would not use felt or similar fibrous linings directly against a valued coin surface. Fibrous linings are like carpet and can accumulate dust, which can cause fine scratching. You are better off using tried and proven PVC free holders, where the attribution of the coin can be written on the holder.

Oh, for CRH I use a bare oak table. I can work with the coins a LOT faster by sliding them around. CHR is all about speed for me.
