Just sharing what I found on another forum. Here's a print of a NY Times article dated Nov 10, 1915. It concerns the disposition of a buffalo named "Black Diamond". Oh, by the way "Black Diamond" was the model for the reverse design of the buffalo nickel (1913-1938). Interesting read. His stuffed head was circulating at ANA shows back in the 80's. Enjoy the read.

Interesting that the article fails to mention that he served as the model for the nickel. It mentions that he's famous but neglects the nickel part. Perhaps the author was not aware...??

David Lange covers the whole Black Diamond thing pretty well in his book.

Very interesting read. They wanted to cash him in before he cashed in.

But is it possible that he had a double for a stand in for that Nickel? Does anyone really know which Buffalo was used for that Nickel? And could there have been different Buffalos used for different Nickels? How do we know, how do we know?

Cool! Thank you! It is surprising that such a well-researched article would leave out the biggest part of the story. Perhaps it was intentional, to protect the butcher...

His hide was turned into a 13-foot automobile robe.
